Tours

Fall tours provide an excellent opportunity to watch male ducks transform from subtle summer plumages to bright, showy winter plumages used to attract mates.  Spring tours are an excellent chance to learn about nesting, incubation, and hatching of waterfowl.  Both spring and fall tours give visitors the opportunity to learn about LRWC programs and view over 70 species of waterfowl.   We look forward to welcoming you!

Tour Information for Members

LRWC offers guided tours through the aviary for members only.  Member tours will be held at 2 pm on the first Sunday of each month, and all Sundays during the months of May, June, September and October.  Member tours offer an indepth exploration of the entire aviary with one of our Environmental Educators as your guide.  Reservations for member tours may be made Monday through Friday between 9 am and 4 pm.  Tour cancellations are requsted by 5 pm that Saturday.  Call 860/567-2062 for reservations.  Tour space is limited to 12 people.

Public Visiting Hours

Not a member?  Public visiting hours at the aviary will be held on the first Sunday of each month from 10 am - 2 pm (except on national holidays), free of charge.  During visiting hours, staff will be available to introduce visitors to LRWC and answer questions regarding the facility and our programs.  Visitors will have the opportunity to become members, and may take the 2 pm member tour if they join and space is available.

Group tours are available and can be customized for specific age levels or interest groups.  Please call 860/567-2062 to inquire about a group tour.

 

Dogs are not invited to LRWC.  Sorry, we love dogs but the birds don't! 

 Directions

LRWC is located on Duck Pond Road in Litchfield, which is in northwestern Connecticut.  From Litchfield Center, take Rte 202 west towards Bantam. Travel 0.8 miles to the traffic light (just past Stop & Shop on left) and turn right on Milton Road. Take third left onto Duck Pond Road, a small dirt road. Proceed 0.5 miles, crossing a small bridge, to the LRWC driveway on the right marked with a wooden sign.
